Can I combine Wi-Fi and my iPhone's Internet connection on my PC? You can, with Speedify

This article explains how to use Speedify on your Windows PC to combine your Wi-Fi connection with your iPhone's cellular connection, so you get faster speeds and stay online even if one connection drops.

What You'll Need

  • A Windows PC connected to a Wi-Fi network
  • An iPhone or iPad with a data plan and Personal Hotspot available
  • A USB cable for your iPhone
  • The latest version of iTunes installed on your PC (it contains the drivers needed for USB tethering)

How Speedify Works

Step 1: Connect to Wi-Fi

Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and your PC is connected to a network.

Click the Wi-Fi symbol in the lower right corner of the taskbar. If you're not connected yet, turn on Wi-Fi using the tile in the pop-up menu, then pick your network. Private networks may ask for a password.

Step 2: Enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone

A Personal Hotspot lets your iPhone or iPad share its cellular data with other devices over Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth.

Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot and flip the switch on.

On this screen you can check the name of the phone (used as the Wi-Fi name) and set the password.

NOTE: If you don't see the Personal Hotspot option, contact your carrier to make sure your plan includes it.

Step 3: Connect your iPhone to your PC via USB

First, install or update to the latest version of iTunes. It contains the drivers needed for USB tethering.

Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC with a USB cable. If your phone shows a "Trust This Computer?" alert, tap Trust.

Make sure you can see your iPhone or iPad in iTunes. If your PC doesn't recognize the device, try a different USB cable.

Your iPhone should start sharing its connection with your PC on its own. Click the network icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar, and the iPhone should be listed at the top of the network list.

Step 4: Download and Install Speedify

Download and install Speedify. Once it's running, Speedify finds your Wi-Fi and your tethered iPhone connection on its own and combines them. You don't need to set anything up. If one connection slows down or drops, Speedify keeps you online with the other.

Alternative: Combine Wi-Fi and Tethered iPhone on a PC Easier

Speedify's Pair & Share feature lets your PC borrow your iPhone's cellular connection with no cable. It's the wireless way to do the same thing.

  1. Install Speedify on all devices
  2. Join the same Wi-Fi or local network
  3. Pull up the Pair & Share settings in Speedify and tap on the desired device to send an invitation to pair
  4. Tap accept on the other device

Once paired, both devices can share and receive each other's connections at the same time. The more devices you pair with, the more connections you have. Traffic between paired devices is fully encrypted, and you stay in control: set permissions, set limits, or unpair at any time.
