Can I combine Ethernet and my Android phone's Internet connection on my PC? Yes, with Speedify!

This article explains how to use Speedify on your Windows PC to combine your Ethernet connection with your Android phone's 4G/5G cellular connection, tethered over USB, for faster upload and download speeds and more reliable internet.

What You'll Need

  • A Windows PC with an Ethernet port, or a USB to Ethernet adapter
  • An Ethernet cable connected to your router or modem
  • An Android phone running Android 9 or later
  • A USB cable to connect your Android phone to your PC
  • Speedify installed on your Windows PC

Let's Get Started

Step 1

Connect an Ethernet cable between your router or modem and the Ethernet port on your PC. If your computer doesn't have a built-in Ethernet port, a USB to Ethernet adapter will work just as well.

In most cases your PC will connect to the internet automatically. If it doesn't, see How to Connect Your PC to Wired Ethernet for troubleshooting options.

Step 2

Connect your Android phone to your PC using a USB cable. A notification will appear at the top of your phone's screen. To enable USB tethering:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Touch and hold Hotspot.
  3. Turn on USB tethering.

Alternatively, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering and enable USB tethering from there.

Note: If your Android phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network, USB tethering will share that Wi-Fi connection, not your cellular connection. To bring your phone's 4G/5G cellular connection into the mix, enable mobile data and turn off Wi-Fi on your phone before tethering.
Note: Some mobile carriers limit or charge extra for tethering. Check with your carrier before getting started.

Step 3

Confirm that your tethered connection is active on your PC. Click the network icon (computer or Wi-Fi icon) in the lower-right corner of the taskbar (system tray). Your tethered Android phone will appear as a wired connection labeled something like "Network 2" or "Network 3." You should see it listed as connected.

Step 4

Download and install Speedify on your Windows PC if you haven't already. Once Speedify is running, it will automatically detect both your Ethernet connection and your tethered Android phone's connection and begin combining them. You'll see faster upload and download speeds and more reliable internet right away.

Pair & Share: An Easier Wireless Alternative

If you'd rather go wireless, Speedify's Pair & Share feature lets you combine 4G/5G cellular connections across multiple devices without a USB cable. Here's how it works:

  1. Install Speedify on all devices you want to pair.
  2. Connect all devices to the same Wi-Fi network or local network.
  3. Open Pair & Share in Speedify and tap the device you want to pair with to send an invitation.
  4. Accept the invitation on the other device.

Once paired, both devices can share and receive each other's internet connections. Internet traffic between devices is fully encrypted, and you stay in full control over which devices can share what. You can set limits, adjust permissions, or unpair devices at any time.
