Speedify Secondary Threshold Overview

The Secondary Threshold controls when Speedify begins using internet connections set to Secondary priority while one or more Primary connections are active. This feature helps manage how Speedify balances performance, data usage, and battery consumption when multiple internet connections are available.

How Secondary Threshold Works

Speedify combines multiple internet connections to improve speed, reliability, and stability. Each connection can be assigned a priority level in Connection Settings.

The Secondary Threshold determines when Speedify will start using Secondary connections alongside Primary connections.

Basic Behavior

  • Speedify continuously monitors the combined speed of all Primary connections.
  • If the Primary connections cannot reach the configured threshold for the current data traffic type, Speedify activates Secondary connections.
  • If Primary connections meet or exceed the threshold, Secondary connections remain idle.

This allows users to reserve Secondary connections, such as cellular data connections, for when they are needed.

Example Scenarios

Scenario 1:

  • Primary connection: Home Wi-Fi connection
  • Secondary connection: Cellular data connection
  • Secondary Threshold: 20 Mbps

If the Wi-Fi connection speed drops below 20 Mbps, Speedify activates the cellular connection. When Wi-Fi speed recovers, Speedify may reduce or stop using cellular data.

Scenario 2:

  • Primary connection: Ethernet connection
  • Secondary connection: Mobile hotspot
  • Secondary Threshold: 50 Mbps

If the Ethernet connection delivers consistent performance above 50 Mbps, Speedify keeps the hotspot inactive. If performance drops, the hotspot activates to assist with data traffic.

Data Usage Considerations

Higher Secondary Threshold values cause Secondary connections to activate more frequently. This may result in:

  • Increased cellular data usage
  • Increased battery consumption on mobile devices
  • Greater overall bandwidth availability

Speedify includes cost-aware features such as Data Limits that help manage usage on metered connections.
