Can I combine Starlink Internet with Wi-Fi on my Mac? Yes, with Speedify!
This article explains how to use Speedify on your Mac to combine your Starlink internet with a second Wi-Fi connection, so you get faster speeds and stay online even if one connection drops.
What You'll Need
- A Starlink dish that is set up and working, plus your Starlink Wi-Fi name and password
- A USB Wi-Fi adapter, with drivers from its maker
- A Mac running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or older
Important: Apple removed support for USB Wi-Fi adapters in macOS 12 (Monterey) and newer. If your Mac is on Monterey or later, you can't add a second Wi-Fi connection this way. You can still combine your Starlink with a wired Ethernet connection or with a tethered iPhone or Android phone. Those guides walk you through it.
Let's Get Started
Step 1: Connect to Your Starlink Wi-Fi Network
First, make sure your Starlink is set up according to the instructions that came in the package. This includes creating your Starlink Wi-Fi network and setting a password.
Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. (If Wi-Fi is off, choose "Turn Wi-Fi On.") Select the Wi-Fi network that belongs to your Starlink and enter the password to connect.
Step 2: Connect and Set Up Your USB Wi-Fi Adapter
Plug your USB Wi-Fi adapter into a USB port on your Mac. Install the drivers and the wireless utility that came with your adapter. You may need to restart your Mac when the install finishes.
Turn on your adapter's wireless utility. Then open it, pick a Wi-Fi network from the list, and connect. Private networks usually ask for a password.
Your Mac should now be online through the USB Wi-Fi adapter. To check, open System Preferences, click Network, and look for your new adapter in the list on the left.
Step 3: Download and Install Speedify
Download and install Speedify. Once it's running, Speedify finds your Starlink connection and your second Wi-Fi connection on its own and combines them. You don't need to set anything up. If one connection slows down or drops, Speedify keeps you online with the other.
No Adapter? Try Speedify's Pair & Share
If you can't use a USB Wi-Fi adapter, Speedify's Pair & Share feature gives you another way to add a connection. It lets your Mac borrow cellular data from a nearby phone that also runs Speedify.
