How can I combine 3G / 4G dongle and tethered Android on a Mac?

With Speedify, it’s easy to combine your Android connection with a 3G/4G/LTE dongle connection on your Mac. In this article, we are going to walk you through how to do it.

NOTE: macOS or OS X can be restrictive. Some users will find issues adding connections to their mac. In these cases, get in touch with your network adapter manufacturer for further support.

Step 1: Connect the 3G/4G/LTE dongle through a USB port to your Mac. Open Network via System Preferences on your Mac and Create a New Service by clicking the + icon. A New Service pop-up will appear; under the Interface drop-down, choose your 3G/4G/LTE dongle and click Create.

Please note, when Creating a New Service, the Service Name can be customized to your liking. However, the Interface may show a different Mobile Network Adapter name than shown here. If you're unsure of the New Service that you need to create or the Interface does not show a Network adapter, then you should contact your dongle manufacturer or your cellular internet service provider.

Step 2: Now, it's time to connect to your Android device. Android devices that use Sim Cards (like Smart Phones and tablets) can use a 3G, 4G, or LTE connection; by tethering, you can harness that connection as an additional internet source. Once you have connected your Android to an internet source, you can start tethering your Android to your Mac via USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.

Keep in mind that Bluetooth is not typically the optimal method for tethering: it is limited to 1 Mbps (Bluetooth 4) or 2 Mbps (Bluetooth 5). If you have fast LTE speeds on your phone, you might get better results with USB tethering.

Step 3: Combine connections by turning on Speedify. When you launch Speedify, the software automatically detects the 3G/4G/LTE dongle and Android connections. You will see them each contained in a Connection Bubble on the Dashboard.

And presto! You’re combining connections with the magic of Channel Bonding for improved speed, reliability, and security. You are now free to go forth and browse the internet, stream videos, and use your apps as you normally would.
