How can I combine Ethernet and 3G / 4G dongle on a Mac?
With Speedify, it’s easy to combine your wired Ethernet connection with a cellular 3G/4G/LTE dongle connection on your Mac. In this article, we are going to walk you through how to do it, so you can benefit from a faster, more stable internet.
Step 1: Connect the dongle through a USB port to your Mac. Open Network via System Preferences on your Mac and Create a New Service by clicking the + icon.
Please note, when Creating a New Service, the Service Name can be customized to your liking. However, the Interface may show a different Mobile Network Adapter name than shown here. If you're unsure of the New Service that you need to create or the Interface does not show a Network adapter, then you should contact your dongle manufacturer or your cellular internet service provider.
A New Service popup will appear; under the Interface drop-down, choose your 3G/4G dongle and click Create.
On the left-hand side, your 3G/4G dongle should show a Connected status; this means your Mac is now set up to use your 3G/4G dongle.
Step 2: You should now be able to connect to the internet using your 3G/4G dongle via your Mac if your cellular signal is sufficient. If you still can’t connect to the internet, contact your ISP/cellular network provider.
Step 3: Now, connect your Ethernet cable to your Mac, keeping in mind that some older Macs come equipped with an Ethernet port, but most will require you to use either a Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet or USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Then, plug the other end into your modem or router. In most cases, you will connect to the internet automatically. If you don't, see some troubleshooting options here.
Step 4: Start Speedify on your Mac to combine the wired Ethernet and 3G/4G/LTE dongle connections. When you launch Speedify, the software automatically detects the two connections. You will see them each contained in a Connection Bubble on the Dashboard.
And presto! You’re combining connections with the magic of Channel Bonding for improved speed, reliability, and security. You are now free to go forth and browse the internet, stream videos, and use your apps as you normally would.
