Can I combine Wi-Fi and Ethernet on Ubuntu Linux? Yes, with Speedify!

This article explains how to use Speedify on Ubuntu Linux to combine your Wi-Fi network and Ethernet connection at the same time, giving you faster upload and download speeds and a more reliable internet connection.

What You'll Need

  • An Ubuntu Linux computer
  • An Ethernet cable and access to a router or modem (or a USB to Ethernet adapter if your computer doesn't have a built-in Ethernet port)
  • A Wi-Fi network to connect to
  • Speedify installed on your computer

Let's Get Started

Step 1

Connect an Ethernet cable between your router or modem and the Ethernet port on your Ubuntu computer. If your computer doesn't have a built-in Ethernet port, use a USB to Ethernet adapter instead.

Once connected, Ubuntu will recognize the Ethernet connection automatically. You can confirm it's active by opening the System Menu (the arrow icon in the top-right corner of your screen), you should see "Wired Connection" listed there.

Step 2

Connect to your Wi-Fi network. Click on the arrow in the top-right corner of your screen to open the System Menu, then navigate to Wi-Fi > Select Network and choose your network from the list. Private networks will ask you to enter a password before connecting.

Step 3

Download and install Speedify on your Ubuntu computer. Once it's running, Speedify will automatically detect both your Wi-Fi network and your Ethernet connection and start combining them. You'll get faster upload and download speeds along with a more stable, secure internet connection.

You can manage settings, view statistics, and apply limits to individual connections by clicking on them from the Speedify Dashboard, or by navigating to the connection through the main Settings menu.

Did you know - Speedify can combine more than two internet connections at once? If you have a 4G/5G cellular connection available (through a phone or USB modem), you can add that to the mix too for even faster speeds and better reliability.
