Can I combine Starlink Internet with a 4G or 5G cellular dongle on Ubuntu Linux? Yes, Speedify can help!

This article explains how to use Speedify on Ubuntu Linux to combine your Starlink internet connection with a 4G/5G cellular dongle for faster upload and download speeds, better reliability, and improved security.

What You'll Need

  • A Starlink dish, fully set up and providing a Wi-Fi network
  • A 4G/5G USB cellular dongle that is compatible with Ubuntu Linux
  • An Ubuntu Linux computer with an available USB port
  • Speedify installed on your Ubuntu Linux computer
Note: Before purchasing or connecting a USB cellular dongle, verify that it is compatible with your specific hardware and version of Ubuntu Linux. Some devices may require additional drivers or software from the manufacturer.

Let's Get Started

Step 1

Set up your Starlink dish and Wi-Fi network following the instructions included in your Starlink package. Once your Starlink Wi-Fi network is active, connect your Ubuntu Linux computer to it.

To connect, click the arrow in the top-right corner of your screen (the System Menu), then go to Wi-Fi > Select Network. Choose the Wi-Fi network associated with your Starlink connection and enter your password.

You should see the Wi-Fi indicator appear in the System Menu, confirming you're connected.

Step 2

Connect your 4G/5G USB cellular dongle to an available USB port on your Ubuntu Linux computer. In most cases, it will appear in the System Menu as a "Wired Connection."

Some cellular dongles require proprietary dialer software to establish a connection. If yours does, follow the manufacturer's installation and setup instructions closely before moving on.

Step 3

Download and install Speedify on your Ubuntu Linux computer. Once Speedify is running, it will automatically detect both your Starlink Wi-Fi connection and your cellular dongle connection, then combine them to give you faster upload and download speeds with greater stability and security.

You can manage settings, view connection statistics, and apply limits to individual connections by clicking on them from the Speedify dashboard, or by navigating through the main Settings menu.

Speedify runs quietly in the background, continuously optimizing your internet traffic, including prioritizing video streams to reduce buffering and disconnects.

Did you know - if you need to keep several devices connected in areas with limited or spotty network coverage (like event venues, remote locations, or while traveling), Speedify's Pair and Share feature lets you share a 4G/5G cellular connection between multiple devices wirelessly. This helps distribute your cellular internet traffic across devices, keeping everyone online even when Wi-Fi is slow or unavailable.
