Can I combine Starlink Internet with Wi-Fi on Ubuntu Linux? Yes, Speedify can help!

This article explains how to use Speedify on Ubuntu Linux to combine your Starlink internet connection with a second Wi-Fi connection for faster upload and download speeds and more reliable online activity.

What You'll Need

  • A Starlink dish set up and active, with your Starlink Wi-Fi network name and password on hand
  • A USB Wi-Fi adapter that is compatible with Ubuntu Linux
  • A computer running Ubuntu Linux with at least two available USB ports (or one USB port plus a built-in Wi-Fi card)
Note: Before purchasing a USB Wi-Fi adapter, verify that it is compatible with your specific hardware and version of Ubuntu Linux. Some adapters may require additional drivers from the manufacturer.

Let's Get Started

First, make sure your Starlink dish is set up according to the instructions included in the package. This includes creating your Starlink Wi-Fi network and setting a password.

To connect your Ubuntu computer to the Starlink Wi-Fi network:

  1. Click the arrow in the top-right corner of your screen to open the System Menu.
  2. Select Wi-Fi, then choose Select Network.
  3. Choose the Wi-Fi network associated with your Starlink connection and enter your password.

Step 2: Connect and Configure Your USB Wi-Fi Adapter

Plug your USB Wi-Fi adapter into an open USB port on your Ubuntu computer.

  1. Click the arrow in the top-right corner to open the System Menu.
  2. Click on USB Wi-Fi (the name may differ depending on your adapter model), then select Select Network.
  3. Choose the second Wi-Fi network you want to combine with Starlink and connect to it.

You should now see two active internet connections in your System Menu: one for Starlink, and one through your USB Wi-Fi adapter.

Step 3: Download and Install Speedify

With both internet connections active, download and install Speedify. Once Speedify is running, it will automatically detect your Starlink connection and your second Wi-Fi connection, and begin combining them. You'll get faster upload and download speeds, and your online activity stays connected even if one connection drops.

You can manage settings, view usage statistics, and apply limits to individual connections by clicking on them from the Speedify Dashboard, or by going to the main Settings menu.

Speedify works quietly in the background, automatically optimizing your internet traffic, including prioritizing streaming activity to reduce buffering and disconnects.

Did you know - Speedify can also combine a Starlink internet connection with a 4G/5G cellular connection or a wired Ethernet connection, not just a second Wi-Fi network. The more internet connections Speedify has to work with, the faster and more reliable your connection becomes. Learn more about combining multiple internet connections with Speedify.
