NAT vs Static IP Functionality with Speedify
When you connect through Speedify, your internet traffic is routed through a shared public IP address by default. This is done using Network Address Translation (NAT). This article explains what that means, why Speedify uses it, and what your options are if you need a static IP address instead.
How Speedify Handles Your IP Address
By default, Speedify gives you a NAT'd IP address. Your internet traffic is mixed with the internet traffic of other Speedify users, and each time you connect, you receive a different IP address. This is intentional, it keeps you more anonymous online and helps protect your privacy.
NAT is a method of remapping one IP address space into another by modifying network address information in the IP header of packets while they travel across a routing device. In practice, it means your real IP address is never exposed directly to the sites and services you connect to.
Static IPs With Speedify
If you need a static IP address - for example, if you're running a server that other people connect to - Speedify's default NAT setup won't work for that use case. In that situation, you'll want to look at Speedify Dedicated or Self-Hosted Servers.
Speedify Dedicated or Self-Hosted Servers give you a static IP address that doesn't change between sessions and also support port forwarding.
To learn more about setting up port forwarding, see Port Forwarding with Speedify.
