Wireless WAN Setup on OpenWrt

This article explains how to configure a Wireless WAN (WWAN) connection on an OpenWrt router so that Speedify can use a Wi-Fi network as one of its bonded internet connections. To do this, you'll switch your router's wireless radio from access point mode to client mode.

Let's Get Started

Step 1

In LuCI, go to Network > Wireless.

LuCI Network > Wireless menu

Step 2

Select which radio you want to use as a Wireless WAN (WWAN) connection, then click Scan. This will show you the available Wi-Fi networks in range.

Step 3

From the scan results, select the Wi-Fi network you want to use as your WAN connection.

Step 4

Under Interface Configuration, set the mode to Client. This switches the wireless radio from broadcasting a Wi-Fi network to connecting to one.

Step 5

Go to Network > Interfaces and configure a unique Gateway Metric for this WWAN interface. This step is required for Speedify to correctly manage the connection alongside your other internet connections.

Once you've set the Gateway Metric, Speedify will recognize the WWAN connection and include it in bonding alongside your other internet connections.
